It is one of the few forms of psychotherapy that has been scientifically tested and found to be highly effective in hundreds of clinical studies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In study after study, it has been shown to be as effective as drugs in treating both depression and anxiety states. Results overwhelmingly support the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavior Therapy with virtually all emotional problems and is the preferred treatment for such mental illnesses as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Depression<\/li>\n<li>Bipolar Disorder<\/li>\n<li>Shyness and social anxiety<\/li>\n<li>Panic attacks and phobias<\/li>\n<li>Obsessive Compulsions Disorder<\/li>\n<li>Eating disorders<\/li>\n<li>Insomnia<\/li>\n<li>Difficulty establishing or staying in relationships<\/li>\n<li>Problems with existing marriage or other relationships<\/li>\n<li>Job, career or school difficulties<\/li>\n<li>Sexual problems<\/li>\n<li>Sexual and physical abuse<\/li>\n<li>Generalized anxiety (chronic worry)<\/li>\n<li>Chronic Fatigue Syndrome<\/li>\n<li>Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol and addictions<\/li>\n<li>Shame and humiliation<\/li>\n<li>Occupational issues<\/li>\n<li>Anger, aggression and violence<\/li>\n<li>Psychosis and Schizophrenia<\/li>\n<li>Trouble controlling feelings such as sadness, fear, guilt, etc<\/li>\n<li>Hypochondriasis<\/li>\n<li>Over-inhibition of feelings or expression<\/li>\n<li>Survivors of disaster and trauma<\/li>\n<li>Personality disorders<\/li>\n<li>Childhood and adolescent problems<\/li>\n<li>Complications associated with ageing<\/li>\n<li>Other elderly problems<\/li>\n<li>Feeling \u201cstressed out\u201d or &#8220;stuck&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>General Health problems<\/li>\n<li>Low self-esteem (accepting or respecting yourself)<\/li>\n<li>Inadequate coping skills, or ill-chosen methods of coping<\/li>\n<li>Passivity, procrastination and \u201cpassive aggression\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)<\/li>\n<li>Chronic pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cognitive Behavior Therapy was developed to provide long term solutions to these, and other, mental illnesses. It particularly concentrates on ideas that are unrealistic. These often undermine our self-confidence and make us feel depressed or anxious. Looking at these can help us work out different ways of thinking and behaving, that in turn will help us cope better. The basic premise of cognitive behavior therapy therefore, is that the way we think about events in our lives (cognitions) determines how we feel about them (emotions), which in turn influences how we react (behavior).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cognitive Behavior Therapy also helps people to look at their &#8220;rules for living\u201d called schemas. Schemas are cognitive structures or templates that organise how we think, feel, act, relate, and understand and are typically referred to as our personality style.\u00a0 Schemas are outside of conscious awareness and determine how we interpret the world and respond to situations.
